Successful Ultrasonic Drilling Hole Monitor Training Completed in Hanoi, Vietnam

In late October 2025, the our after-sales service team successfully conducted a three-day on-site technical training session in Hanoi, Vietnam, focusing on the operation and application of the Ultrasonic Drilling Hole Monitor (UDM)—our advanced system for assessing borehole and diaphragm wall quality.

This comprehensive training program covered both software and field operation, providing hands-on experience and data analysis skills to ensure our client’s team can confidently and independently operate the equipment for their ongoing construction quality assurance projects.

A Three-Day Technical Journey of Learning and Practice

The training was divided into three progressive modules, designed to take the participants from theoretical understanding to real-world mastery:

  • Indoor Data Acquisition Software Training
  • On-Site Field Operation and Data Collection (with comparison test against Japan’s Koden system)
  • Indoor Data Processing and Analysis Training

Each module was carefully structured to address different aspects of the ultrasonic testing process—from equipment setup and calibration to data interpretation and reporting.

Part 1: Indoor Training on Data Acquisition Software

The first day was dedicated to software operation and system familiarization. Our technical specialist introduced the fundamental principles of ultrasonic detection for drilled shafts and diaphragm walls, followed by a detailed demonstration of the TENSENSE Ultrasonic Drilling Hole Monitor software interface.

Participants learned :

  1. Theory of the equipment working
  2. Set up test parameters
  3. Connect and configure sensors
  4. Monitor live data acquisition in real-time
  5. Record and manage project data efficiently

During this session, our engineer also guided the team through troubleshooting procedures and signal interpretation basics, ensuring they could quickly diagnose and resolve common field challenges. The interactive Q&A session helped clarify several technical details, especially concerning signal waveform characteristics and calibration procedures.

The first day concluded with participants successfully completing simulated data collection exercises indoors, building a solid foundation for the upcoming field training.

Part 2: On-Site Field Operation and Side-by-Side Performance Test

The second day marked the highlight of the program—on-site field operation at a construction project in Hanoi. The field session aimed to give participants direct experience with the Ultrasonic Drilling Hole Monitor’s full operation workflow, from setup to data recording.

The TENSENSE service team demonstrated:

  • Proper probe assembly and lowering techniques
  • Cable management and connection safety
  • On-site calibration and zero-depth verification
  • Real-time data visualization and recording under field conditions

To ensure a fair and practical evaluation, the client arranged a performance comparison test between the TENSENSE UDHM and Japan’s Koden system, one of the internationally recognized brands in ultrasonic drilling hole testing.

Despite the challenging working conditions at the site, the TENSENSE system demonstrated stable signal performance, rapid data acquisition speed, and clear visualization of borehole profiles. The client’s technical team was impressed by the instrument’s operational efficiency and user-friendly interface, especially during the real-time comparison stage.

At the end of the field day, both teams discussed the testing results in detail. The client acknowledged the accuracy and reliability of the TENSENSE data, which aligned closely with reference readings while offering a more streamlined workflow.

Part 3: Indoor Data Processing and Analysis

The third day returned to the classroom for data interpretation and reporting. The focus was on helping participants master the Ultrasonic Data Analysis Software, which converts field-acquired signals into meaningful engineering information.

  • Key training topics included:
  • Data import and synchronization
  • Automatic hole profile reconstruction
  • Anomaly detection and interpretation of low-reflection zones
  • Report generation and quality classification

Participants were given real datasets from the previous day’s field tests to analyze independently, guided by TENSENSE engineers. This approach allowed them to experience the full cycle—from data collection to analysis—enhancing their understanding of how ultrasonic reflection signals correlate with actual borehole conditions.

By the end of the session, each participant successfully generated a complete quality evaluation report, marking the successful conclusion of the training program.

Client Feedback and Acknowledgment

Throughout the three-day program, the client team demonstrated strong engagement and enthusiasm. Their cooperation and technical curiosity greatly contributed to the smooth progress and positive outcomes of the training.

In their closing remarks, the client’s project manager expressed appreciation for the professional support and in-depth technical sharing provided by the TENSENSE Geotech team. They highlighted that the training not only improved their operators’ skills but also increased confidence in adopting TENSENSE’s ultrasonic technology for upcoming quality control projects.

About the Ultrasonic Drilling Hole Monitor

The Ultrasonic Drilling Hole Monitor (UDM) is an advanced non-destructive testing (NDT) system developed by TENSENSE Geotech for evaluating the integrity and geometry of boreholes and diaphragm walls. By utilizing high-frequency ultrasonic reflection principles, the system can accurately reconstruct the borehole’s cross-sectional profile, detect collapses or sedimentation, and assess the verticality and continuity of drilled shafts.
